Hello, if you are on this page it means that you want to become a SKYDIVER. You have found the right address. In our school instructors will make sure that you jump solo in the shortest time possible.
The most common question is “When do I jump?” First of all it is necessary to complete a theory which entails 20 hours of theoretical lectures and practical exercises covering: free-fall theory, knowledge of parachute equipment, emergency procedures, ground preparation, fundamentals of meteorology and legislation, etc. It is also necessary to carry out the medical examination with an approved doctor (it is similar to the examination for a driving license ). The list of approved doctors can be found at this link.
METHODS OF SCHOOLING
At this point let us describe methods of schooling. There are four:
– AFF – Accelerated Free Fall is an advanced method of education where the instructions are based on the principle of one-on-one . Instructor isresponsiblefor one student for each jump. The very first jump is from 4000m, with two instructors holding and correcting the student in free-fall with the help of pre-agreed hand signals. For a video of this method, see below.
Our instructors have a license to conduct training to all methods, but through years of experience we have found that the most appropriate method is a combination of Tandem& AFF. In this method, the student performs two jumps in tandem, while executing exercises. The advantage of this is to get guidance from the instructor directly when they are needed (especially appropriate at the stage of flying the canopy and landing) . Then we continue with the AFF method, where the first jump is with two instructors holding the student in free-fall and giving him guidance and corrections with pre-agreed hand signals while the student performs exercises. Under canopy the student gets instructions over a radio, that way we guide him safely to the ground. The following jumps are performed with one instructor. You have to pass all categories, this means specific exercises for each category (covering a left and right 360 turn, backflip, front-flip,tracking, speed control in free-fall and forward movement) . The purpose of these maneuvers is to be exposed to an unstable situation, whether intentionally or accidentally, the student will be abletoreturn toa controlled and stable position. Instructors assess when a student meets the requirements of each level/category and is ready to move to the next level. In the event of a student forgetting to monitor the altitude and doesn’t open the canopy, the instructors use hand signals to show the student that he/she should open the canopy. If a student fails to open, despite the signs thenthe instructor physically moves the student’s hand on the handle to open the canopy. If even in this case a student does not react, the instructoropens the canopy. Only when a student masters the independent canopy opening, then he/she moves to the next level. At a level when a student and instructor jump out of an airplane unlinked (means there is no contact between them)the instructor is in the immediate vicinity of the student during the free fall, but not in physical contact. The instructor is directly on standby if the jump is not going according to plan and intervention is required. The advance into this phase, as already mentioned, is only possible after the student shows the necessary knowledge and progress in the previous jumps. All jumps are recorded and after the jump we make a video debrief, enabling faster progress since a student sees exactly what needs to be corrected.
After completing the AFF course, you get permission to jump alone in the presence of an instructor at the DZ. After a few jumps and some extraexercises a student can start jumping with other skydivers. When you reach 50 jumps, necessary to get the license, you’re already jumping in groups along with three or four skydivers.
SUPPLY OF LICENSE
After performing 50 jumps from different heights, while achieving the schools set criteria, a student is ready to become a licensed skydiver. Exam consists of a theoretical part (tests) and a jump before the Examining Board. Prior to this it is necessary to submit an application and undergo administrative requirements, which will be done by your instructor. For the theoretical examination you will be prepared under the direction and supervision of an instructor. Practical part (jump) requires you to show certain skills: left and rightturn, forward and backward somersaults, openthe parachute at a certain altitude and landing in the pre-determined landing area. The listed maneuvers are only one of the possible combinations, which will be set by the examiner. Of course, there are different variations both in the order andin maneuvers. But you can be sure that your Exam only covers things that you have already learned. After a successful jump you passed the exam for the license.
AFF VS. CLASSICAL SCHOOLING
The eternal question is: Why AFF and not Static line or IAD, which are much cheaper? Below is a comparison of these methods:
AFF method | Classical method ( Static line and IAD) |
The First jump course: Theory and 8 jumps (from a height of 4000 meters , accompanied by two instructors ). The student is independent in free fall after seven jumps. | The First jump course: theory and 3 jumps (from a height of 1000m, after exit the canopy opens automatically). The student is independent in free fall after about thirty jumps. |
Student acquires all the necessary knowledge already in this First jump course. | In this First jump course the student doesn’t get to independent jumps from 4000 meters (training continues but after first three jumps you have to pay for each additional jump ) Slow progress continues after the course. It starts with solo deployments from 1200m and then slowly the student advances to higher altitudes while he gathers the experience alone (no instructor in free-fall). |
First solo jump from 4000m (13000ft) after 2 days of jumping (without instructor ) | For the first solo jump from an altitude of 4000m a student typically takes several months (because there is no help of an instructor in free-fall). |
Individual approach instructor – student. ( Intensive preparation for each jump one on one, assistance in free-fall , correction of errors ) Instructor records the free fall , video debrief and correction immediately after the jump. | The group approach one instructor-multiple students ( the instructor on the ground shows the correct exit of the aircraft , the students are on their own when they jump , the instructor is unable to correct their mistakes ). It’s only possible to record exits from the plane, the student falls too fast out of view and the errors are not always visible on the video. |
Students feel safe in free-fall with the constant presence of an instructor (relaxed state of mind leads to faster progress ). | Students are often under stress because they are left to themselves during the jumps. |
Due to the speed and instructing one on one 100 % of students successfully complete AFF training and continue jumping. | Many students give up during the course, due to slow and often stressful way of training . Only about 30 % of students get a license. |
WHAT NOW AFTER I GOT THE LICENSE?
With a Skydiver license you are given the opportunity to jump without the presence of any instructor. You can take part in competitions, skydive in different cities, countries, use your personal equipment and do many things that you as a student could not. When you have a license, there are much less restrictions than in the stage of training. But of course there is still a lot of work before you. The license is to be understood only as the start of something new, but license doesn’t allow you to do whatever you want. You will still receive specific instructions that you have to follow, this time primarily for your safety.
ABOUT SKYDIVING LICENSE
Although we disagree with the existing legislation that limits us, this is what shapes our everyday skydiving. In order to renew your license, you are obliged to fulfill certain conditions. In short: • at least 20 skydives in two years •a valid medical certificate • a recurrency jump • application, completed and submitted on time for a license renewal
